Samhita Mukhopadhyay

Si Se Puede Training and Technology Coordinator


A 29-year-old resident of San Francisco, Samhita grew up in New York and did her undergraduate at SUNY Albany in Sociology and Women's Studies. For six years she worked as a San Francisco public school teacher, teaching in Hunter's Point, the Fillmore and Potrero Hill. She became involved in the teachers for social justice movement in the Bay Area.

Samhita's work in media began 3 years ago when she started blogging for Feministing.com. Samhita recently earned her MA at San Francisco State University in Women's Studies, with her research focused on the inner politics of the feminist blogosphere and the role of feminist blogs in the political blogosphere. Samhita is a blogger for Feministing.com and has blogged and consulted for New American Media, Wiretap, and Colorlines. She was named a Champion of Sexual Literacy by the National Sexuality Resource Center for grassroots activism in sexuality and gender. Her work has appeared in Wiretap Magazine, the Huffington Post, Alternet, Bitch, Nirali Magazine and Pop and Politics, along with several political blogs. Samhita has spoken on over 7 panels about technology, gender and activism including Bioneers, South by South West Interactive, Women, Action and Media and the Allied Media Conference. 

She is the Si, Se Puede Training and Technology Coordinator at the Center for Media Justice.
